J. C. Bose Hall of Residence is named in memory of Dr. Jagadish Chandra Bose, who was a physicist and a biologist. He pioneered the investigation of radio and microwave optics, made significant contributions to plant science, and was a major force behind the expansion of experimental science on the Indian subcontinent. He made remarkable progress in his research of remote wireless signaling and was the first to use semiconductor junctions to detect radio signals. Bose's experimental work in millimeter-band radio was recognized as an IEEE Milestone in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
